F.O.: Spectra

I finished my Spectra scarf! I'm in love with it, but thankful it's done and I can move on to another knitting project. It's funny how I'm pretty much a monogamous knitter, but all over the place with my sewing and other craft projects.

Here it is spread out on my floor. For both yarns I used Dragonfly Fibers yarn in the Paint it Black and Ode to Sock Summit colorways. (details on my Ravelry projects page here).

As I mentioned in my recent podcast episode, I was a bit disappointed because I ran out of the black yarn. I was only able to get 67 wedges instead of the pattern's 84. That's quite a lot of wedges short, and I did get gauge and had (should have had) enough yarn, according to the pattern requirements!

In any case, I'm happy with how it came out and with blocking, I was able to make the length work for me. It's a lovely pattern overall, very simple to follow like Stephen West's patterns are, and it's a great way to learn and work a LOT of short rows. After about 10-12 wedges, the repeat becomes second nature, you won’t even need to pattern sheets expect for occasional reference.

To make this pattern you need to know how to knit (k), purl (p), cross 1 color yarn over another (xAB or xBA), wrap-and-turn (w&t), knit wraps together, slip 1 with yarn in front (sl1 wyif). For a newer knitter, some of those stitches may seem intimidating, but honestly just a few minutes watching a YouTube video and you'll get them all without a problem. You also do them so many times, you will feel like a pro by the end!

  1. It looks fantastic! Great job on the color combo. Glad you could make the yardage work!

  2. It's just beautiful. You should be so proud of yourself for making such a beautiful scarf!

  3. I LOVE the scarf, Tanesha. I know I always say this, but I just love your podcast and blog. You are the first blog I look for in my Bloglovin feed. :)

  4. It looks gorgeous and such a great color for you, Autumn girl! And I think it looks kind of cool as it spirals. Well done!

  5. Beautiful scarf! I love the colors. I've been watching this one on Ravelry and like your version with the variegated yarn rather than different colors in each wedge. Nicely done.

  6. Such a wonderful phrase: monogamous knitter! And the scarf is gorgeous.

  7. Love your Spectra Scarf. I knit one too but think I knit too many wedges as I find mine difficult to wear. So knitting less wedges was probably what I should have done (smile).
