Sandy from the Quilting for the Rest of Us blog and podcast is hosting the (now annual) Boxing Day Sew In (#BDSI on Twitter, Tweetchat, or Instagram). Head on over to her blog for all the details (there aren't many - just join in with your sewing and share over on Twitter) and for the linky party with other blog's who are offering giveaways.
Speaking of giveaways.....
OK, I've been talkin' some good stuff on my podcast lately about my hand-dyeing fabric days. Now I'm putting my fabric where my mouth is and
So for now, only 2 of you lucky-ducks will pry some of my "preciousness" out of my hands....although I am also using today to clean out/purge my sewing room, so you never know what else I might give up in a moment of madness.
GIVEAWAYS HAVE ENDED!
GIVEAWAY #1:
WIN 2 FAT QUARTERS:
Super-soft high quality cotton, triple-washed and dyed in shades of peach, yellow, pink, orange
GIVEAWAY #2: WIN A HALF-YARD OF THIS:

So you know in the movie Ghost where Whoopi Goldberg says to Patrick Swayze, "You don't expect me to give this 3 million dollars to a bunch of nuns?!?!".....LOL, I kind of feel like that except I know that this unused by me fabric for 10+ years will be going to 2 well-loved and deserving homes who will put it to good use....right?
So answer this question in the comments below: What kind of sewing project would you use this (or any) hand dyed fabric for?
CGM
I have an art quilt in mind that I'll be starting soon that the second one would be perfect for. The first one I would probably use in a bag. They're both lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteI think either of those would make an excellent feature fabric in a new purse. I need one for Spring...
ReplyDeleteI'm in the middle of a course with Ineke Berlyn based on the four seasons -these fabrics would be perfect!!
ReplyDeleteI'd use it n a grandmothers flower garden :)
ReplyDeleteI would make a purse and put the awesome fabric in it!
ReplyDeleteI would joyfully add these to my next scrappy quilt!
ReplyDeleteThey are all so beautiful I think they would need to be made into something that is used often or seen often such as a mini wall quilt or a handbag oh or maybe an infinity scarf. Thanks for the giveaway
ReplyDeleteI love batiks/hand dyes as they are "double sided". I'd probably put it into an art quilt. The 2 FQs remind me of a sunset!
ReplyDeleteLovely fabrics, that need to be showcased in some project. Purse, art quilt...
ReplyDeleteI would use this awesome fabric for a new handbag. I think it would definitely be a "one of a kind" handbag and a show stopper.
ReplyDeleteIt is so pretty, I would want to feature it by using a big piece, so maybe a bag or tote. They are lovely!
ReplyDeleteThese will fit right in with the fabrics I am working with in my 'improving appliqué' initiative. I WILL give them a good home!
ReplyDeleteHate to be a copy cat but the first thing I thought of was the tinker tote off Craftsy - I would use any of it for that!
ReplyDeleteI have used hand dyes in a number of different projects. I used a lot of it in the sashings for my Christmas Quilt "This the Season" and have also used them in scrap quilts. I made my sons tshirt quilts and used my own hand dyes in the sashings and borders to bring them up to size. I love hand dyes but do find them hard to incorporate into projects with other fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about making a blackbird art quilt for a while now. I'd love to use either piece of fabric in that.
ReplyDeleteI see great minds think alike... I sent an email saying some HAND DYEs would make a good give away... What would I use the fabric for.. hard question ... I am currently working on a baby quilt ... but I think HAND DYES would look best in the Kaleidoscope RAINBOW quilt I am making my DD. It will be a graduation gift this spring... She loves bright shocking colors and either of the pictured hand dyes will look great in that project. She loves my logo picture and has been bugging me for a new quilt.
ReplyDeleteNonnie.... PS HOPE THE FLU BUG LEAVES YOUR HAPPY HOME.

I would use it to make a table runner. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I'd use it in the pillow shams I'm making for my daybed.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably use it as a border or in one of my many hexagon projects.
ReplyDeleteI am just starting to cut out 8" clamshells from batiks and hand-dyes. Either of these would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteNow that I am leaning toward scrappy..hmmm, this would look great in my upcoming project "Majestic Mountain Sunrise/Sunset. Thanks for the giveaway.
