Thursday Thoughts

  • Did you know I can tango?
  • Like a pro?
  • Yep!
  • But I only know how to do a
  • certain kind of tango dance.
  • It's called the
  • Weight Loss Tango.
  • Here's how it goes:
  • You lose 3 pounds one week
  • Gain 1.5 the next.
  • Lose .2
  • Gain 2.2
  • Lose 1.6
  • Gain 1.6
  • Lose .3
  • Gain 1
  • Lose...
  • Gain...
  • Back...
  • Forth..
  • Da-da...
  • Da-dum....
  • Before you know it
  • you're dancing a tango
  • on and off the scale
  • I am frustrated.
  • Pissed at myself.
  • Trying not to kick the nice WW lady who checks me in
  • every Sunday
  • in her skinny, tanned shins.
  • "Down this week!"
  • cue chirpy voice
  • "Up a little this week!"
  • soft chirpy voice
  • "Down this week!"
  • chirp-chirp
  • "Up a little!"
  • "Oooh, down .1 this week!"
  • 1 tenth of a pound.
  • What's that, a fat quarter?
  • Eesh.
  • And I have only myself to blame.
  • Well myself and the
  • 5-10 extra points I go over every week.
  • That I mentally block out or ignore.
  • If only sewing or knitting burned off
  • ice cream calories automatically.
  • I'd be set for the summer!
  • In the meantime
  • I will try and console myself that
  • why yes, 1/2 a cup of ice cream
  • is a perfectly reasonable
  • serving size for the points allotted.
  • Sure it is.
  • Yep.
  • Chirp! Chirp!
  • It's going to be a long summer folks.

  1. I am with you sister. It shouldn't be so hard should it?

  2. Is that what this dance is called? I'm getting pretty good at it too. Argh.

  3. I've been doing this tango for years. The first time I did weight watchers, I lost at a reasonable pace. That was 20 years ago. The last time I attempted WW, it took me 6 months to lose 5 lb. That's when I decided to worry less about my weight and more about my fitness. I'm going to the gym more often and walking almost every day. I'll never be thin, but I hope to be a little more in shape.

  4. I think this is one of the biggest and hardest challenges for most women. We are consumed with it everyday. We look in the mirror and cringe, we look at other women and rank them on a little chart of "skinny" "Just right" "Big like me" :)

I don't have a solution. I guess we just have to control what we eat, get some good exercise and learn to love ourselves!!!

And be grateful for these wonderful, amazing bodies that do so many things for us. We are pretty healthy and don't have cancer, so life must be good! :)

  5. I feel you friend...I'm dancing the same tango. Promise me we won't count points when we meet in Houston for an adult beverage or two :) Have a great trip this week with the family!!!

  6. I share your dance steps. Full time job, full time mom of a 3.5 year old boy...I know the mantra "eat less, exercise more." I was one of those chirpy gals at a weight loss clinic. But, when to exercise? It does not fit...nor I in my pants.
