Not the best picture, I know, but I wanted to show how I sketch when I'm in my studio, and give you a possible tip when going from sketches to quilts. I often sketch with my tracing paper directly on top of a cutting mat. This way I can better manage the size of the sketch, ensuring it's not too big or small for the finished size block I need. This saves time from having to resize over-and-over to make sure your dimensions and proportions are right for the space you need to fill.
So in the case of the sketch above, I plan for this block to be approx. 10" x 10" and I made sure when drawing to stay within those lines on the cutting mat. When tracing onto fusible web I will of course "clean up" the lines, and use a Sharpie pen to make them darker.
I am also working on my swap blocks for this fun group. I love "getting naughty" in the studio!
What are you working on these days?
