Life update:
- We had a wonderful beach vacation, but came home to no power in the house. Now that we have it again, I am saying repeated thanks to Mr. Carrier!
- Sam improved her swimming skills over the 4th of July, and Maddy finally consented to getting more than just her feet wet.
- Working on/playing around with a quilted floor mat using a jelly roll. Once it's done and if I like how it turns out I will post a tutorial.
- Wendy Johnson Summer Solstice Mystery Shawl
- Westknits Mystery Shawl: Rockefeller by Stephen West
- Mini quilts from some of my recent sketches. Thinking about posting some of the patterns here, I'll keep you posted if/when I get my act together.
- Lessons in Electric Quilt: an experienced quilter and EQ user has posted a series of lessons (pdf format) on the Quilting Board. I have been using them to get more out of this program and use it for future quilt projects.
The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani
What I'm Reading and Watching Lately:
- Lillies (BBC tv series)
- Land Girls (BBC tv series)
- Advance copy of The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
- Finished the 50 Shades of Grey series, and I talk a little about the Erotica genre and my opinion of the term "Mommy Porn."
- Better read than 50 Shades: Bared to You by Sylvia Day...that is if you like that sort of book....with sex, I mean.....um, a LOT of sex......between 2 consenting adults of course......and a super-hot/super-rich young and virile guy...........I only read it for the articles of course. OK I'll shut up now.

Hello Tanesha, Enjoyed your podcast heaps! Felt like we're in the same room chating away like two friends about life, quilting and other fun things (books!).Like you I purchased EQ7 and after reading the manual I haven't designed anything, so I am very interested in following up "Lessons in Electric Quilt".And yes, we all have so many ideas in doing so much more in our crafty life but working full time and being a mom it's not so easy.. Big hug from Australia (and it's freezing here !)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for listening Celia! Let me know how your EQ lessons go.
DeleteSuch a nice post; I agree with Celia that it sounds like we're in the same room. :)
ReplyDeleteI have not read "The Shoemaker's Wife" yet, but would recommend "Life Lessons from my Grandmothers," as a companion. This is a non-fiction book from Ms. Trigiani giving the background for both grandmothers.
We suffered through the Mid-Atlantic AC crisis with you; ours was out for 48+ of the longest hours of my life.
All the best.
Thanks for listening Torie! I did read that one by Adriana T, and thought it was great. And aren't you glad for electricity and the cooling AC it brings LOL?!?!
DeleteI'm listening right now and you just finished talking about 50 Shades of Grey and I have to say that in my opinion you are absolutely right! I'm reading the books right now from the library and I'm completely on the same page. I'm sucked into the story, but would never go there.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great blog and podcast.
Thanks Chris!
DeleteAs always I enjoy your podcast. Love the down to earth and candid way you tell about your life. Love the "all done" story. Cherish those moments they pass too quickly.

ReplyDeleteLowing now :)
Thanks for stopping by Elizabeth!
DeleteHi, Tanesha!
ReplyDeleteI actually think the term "Mommy Porn" refers less to who is reading the book and more to how the sex scenes are written. I have not read Fifty Shades of Gray, but I am guessing the scenes are written very differently than porn aimed at men. At least, that is what "Mommy Porn" used to refer to when I was much younger. I don't think it is meant as any type of pejorative (unless it is used by a man who is a real fan of the hard core stuff).
Gretchen, I think when the term Mommy porn is used by a group of friends sitting around with a bottle of wine, it's admittedly a funny/cute term. But when the media picks up on it and even the NYT uses it, it turns it into a way to downgrade the book being referred to, as well as crosses the line (IMO) into putting down what (mostly) women read. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteWhat a wonderful, packed-full episode! Thanks Tanesha.
