Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo
This author is a Pulitzer Prize winner, and the book has
received so much good press and reviews, I hope I'm not
setting myself up for disappointment.
Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart
This one just sounds like a delightful and fun read!
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
Everyone who has told me about this book, tells me
to get my tissues ready. The reviews on it are great, and I
don't mind a (well written) tearjerker now-and-then.
The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Kean
It's been awhile since I read some non fiction, and I have
heard great things about this one. I must admit I wasn't too fond of
(read: HATED IT!) my high school science classes, but put it in
book form with an interesting spin and lots of historical factoids, I'm game.
What are you reading this month?

The description of Summer at Tiffany reminds me of The Last Convertible. Have you read that book? It is one of those you can return to over and over (periodically) and find new and interesting things to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT'S taking me back to my college days Jayne: Anton Myrer! I think I spent an entire semester downright obsessed with his work, lol. And this was pre "find anything you want on Amazon" days, so I remember begging the college librarian to find that 1 missing copy they had of Once an Eagle, or order another one. Wow, I haven't thought of him in years, but now I MUST start digging his books up again. LOL, I'm such a book nerd.
DeleteHi Tanesha,
ReplyDeleteI'm finishing book #2 in the Cobbled Court series and will soon start book #2 in the Hunger Games series. I want to thank you for turning me back on to reading for pleasure. After nine years of full time college with some less-than-fun reading, I was removed from the pleasures of the novel. Thanks to your podcasts, I'm loving the stories again! Thank you for the gift of reading and inspiration!

Karen, that's so funny because I'm listening to book #2 in the Cobbled Court series this week. So glad you're enjoying reading again, and thanks for listening.
DeleteHi Tenesha,
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying your podcasts. You keep me company when I'm working in the kitchen, doing laundry, and walking the dogs.
Right now I'm reading Tricks - my teenage daughter is on this Ellen Hopkins kick. I can't say that I'm enjoying it - its a very rough read. I did download Home Front and hope to start that soon.
However, my book reading may slow down - my husband just bought me a Ipad for my birthday (didn't you just mention great bday gifts??) anyway, I find myself surfing blogs instead of reading books. Oh well always finding something new!
Thanks
jul
Jul, thanks for listening. I've only read one book of Ellen Hopkins (Triangles), and let's just say she wasn't my cup of tea, lol.
DeleteJust finished THE AMERICAN HEIRESS the other day and picked up FAILING FORWARD.
ReplyDeleteForgot to say that I loved, loved, loved THE AMERICAN HEIRESS. I was especially surprised by the ending and loved it even more. Thanks for your recommendations. I'm trying to get through them.
ReplyDeleteJust finished "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern, which I have really loved. Easily the best book that I have read in quite a few months. Her descriptions of the circus and the people in it are just so evocative.
