Lemon Squares Quilt: Finished!!

Hooray, hurrah my lovely Lemon Squares quilt is done! I used the Joel Dewberry Heirloom fabric in the citrine colorway for the top. I really liked this pattern, and it came together so quickly.

Other things I am working on:
  • 2 holiday mini quilts
  • Knitting a baby sweater using the Lion Brand Log Cabin Sweater pattern
  • Basting the At Home in the Woods quilt. My goal is to (finally) finish this quilt in December.

Black Friday for Crafty People

I do the majority of my holiday shopping for family and friends online. I hate long lines, bumper-to-bumper traffic in mall parking lots, and the quick sell-outs of the deals you're looking for.

With that said, I have found that you encounter very few of these issues at fabric and craft stores or my LQS. I also went to my local Target at 10 am and I think all the early-birds went home to sleep because it was practically empty! I've been able to find some fun items to add to my stash or quilt studio decor. Here's my "Black Friday/Weekend" haul:

Jelly rolls in Ruby by Bonnie & Camille and Little Apples by Aneela Hoey

Retro mini lunchbox tins! They can be used for this:

So cute! I bought several of these (at Target) and plan to use them
for Secret Santa swaps for my quilty friends.

Run, don't walk to your local JoAnn's and check out their adorable
craft and stitcher related holiday signs

and mugs!

And I couldn't resist picking up this magazine.
I'm a big fan of the Quilting Arts Gifts editions each year,
and several of the projects in Stitch Gifts looked great.

So that's my "Black Friday for Stitchers" haul. What did you treat yourself to?

Figuring a Few Things Out

If you're already a listener of my podcast, you may have noticed it's been several (extra) weeks since I've posted a new episode. The reason is that my hosting site, Blip.tv, has made the decision to boot us audio podcasters out, keeping only their video podcasters. This bummed me out not only because I was very happy with them and the fact I only had to upload my mpeg file and poof! they sent it to iTunes.

Now I've got to figure a few things out. Like where to go, how to use a new format, and also move all of the previous episodes over to the new feed. Not a happy task for the very low technically savvy person that I am.

To be honest, I've known about this move for about a month now, but I (as usual) procrastinated and did a mental "la la la" about it.

All this to say that I am NOT pod-fading, just on a hopefully short "pod-pause" while I figure all this s$!#&!**" out....not that I'm bitter or anything, lol.

Thank you for sticking with me. I will post again about the podcast when I'm back up and running with a new feed.

Thursday Thoughts

  • We're hosting Thanksgiving dinner next week.
  • So far, 12 have rsvp'd.
  • My house is a wreck.
  • I am very unmotivated to clean it.
  • Would it look bad if I served everyone on my daughter's plastic plates from her play-kitchen?
  • Whatever happens and however bad it looks, I'll blame it all on the kids.
  • 2/3 of the crap strewn all over the house is theirs.
  • Who am I kidding? I'm too A-type personailty not to go on a cleaning frenzy this weekend.
  • My husband will alternately hide out in the basement and try and tackle the 55 things I put on his "Honey Do" list while ducking and dodging me.
  • And I don't take "but the game's on" as an excuse either.
  • I guess it's too much to ask him to paint the house by Tuesday?
  • I just learned The Duggars are having their 20th baby.
  • I'm surprised it doesn't just fall out.
  • You know what I mean.
  • We've got 2 kids kicking our ass, I don't know how they do it with 20.
  • I don't even understand where or how they have time or energy to have "relations".
  • I'd look at my husband and say, "H to the No" for the end of all time buddy.
  • I am currently obsessed with doing holiday sketches.
  • Like this one:

  • And this one:

    • To the point I am ignoring all of the other WIPs I'd had every intention of completing by the end of the year.
    • The sketches will make cute mini quilts and/or mug rugs.
    • If you read some previous posts you'll see the ones I've already made.
    • I'm too busy to link to them here.
    • Got to sit with my Haagen Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter and contemplate the size of the turkey I need for about 20 people.
    • You know, the ones who don't rsvp but still show up.
    • With 3 of their "friends."
    • At least everyone knows to bring a bottle of wine.
    • Which I mysteriously smuggle to my wine stash for private consumption later.
    • You probably think I'm a wino by now what with all the wine drinking I refer to.
    • But really, do you think anyone should get through a Thanksgiving for 20, including in-laws without at least 1 glass of wine?
    • Surely you jest.

    I'm on FIRE!!!

Kindle Fire that is. I got one from darling hubby for my birthday! I was like a kid waiting for Santa to come what with having to wait 2 weeks for my gift to arrive. It was SO WORTH the wait. I have been playing with it all day. I love how quickly it synced up with the books and games in my "old" Kindle. I spent over an hour looking through all of the movies available to view instantly or rent for 24-48 hours at a reasonable $2.99 - $4.99. Don't get me started on how many FREE movies and TV shows there are too....can you say all of Season 1 of Downton Abbey? Yes!! There are lots of apps as well. I already downloaded Angry Birds...got to have those crazy birds and piggies, lol.

The Fire streams beautifully with no hiccups or stalling. The screen and overall size are perfect. Only drawbacks are that it's a bit heavier than I was expecting, but once I put it in a cover it just felt like the weight of a hardcover book to me. Another drawback for some would be that it doesn't have 3G/4G capability, only wireless. But frankly, I am just planning to use this as my eReader, play mindless games, and to watch movies occasionally when I'm traveling. I have my laptop at home and at work to do the "heavier" work of day-to-day emails and generating documents. I also have an iPhone, so again I'm covered with the basic needs I was looking for in a higher-end eReader. This one totally fits the bill!

Ask questions if you're thinking about getting one but would like more specifics about something. But if you're only dipping a toe in so far, JUMP IN, it's so worth it!

    WIP Wednesday: Selvage Christmas Trees

I couldn't resist making some paper pieced Christmas trees last weekend. I started to embellish them with buttons as ornaments, but then thought the small circles on selvages would work just as well.

Cute, huh? I turned a few of them into mug rugs.

One will go to my Secret Santa partner over on the Quilting Board. I'm going to make 1 more to have a set of 2 to keep.

Other things I am working on:
    • Finishing the machine quilting on Citrine Lemon Squares quilt
    • 2 more mini holiday quilts
    • Knitting a baby sweater for Maddy using the Lion Brand Log Cabin Sweater pattern

    Still Here!!

I simply have not had the time to post! Both Samantha and Madeline had colds last week, then I came down with it the following week. Typical for the change of season. I have been working on a few projects which I will share soon. Here's one of them:

    Remember this sketch?

It turned into this little quilt:

A mini holiday quilt. I used fusible applique and embroidered the string.

    More to come this week!
